Isn't she a beaut!

NEW WORK-putting on the ritz

Its been a long time since I've done some design work, but this weekend I had a chance to design this for Rah's parents for a church dinner. The brief was right up my alley with it being 1920's  "Putting on the Ritz" style. Which gave me a good chance to try out a retro movie poster look.

And now I'll leave you with this little gem!

Typography buzz

At the moment I've had an increased interest in typography, never thought I would be saying that but there we go. I've had a few ideas for different typefaces and have given them a bit o a go. Only come up with two so far and only uppercase as well. And one of them I have had a play around in illustrator with.

I am still alive!

Been yonks since the last update here and alot has happened in that time. And just to touch up on the highlights...well the main highlight of all is that I got a job back in screenprinting. Its not far from where we are living, all my workmates are cool and the work is fun and interesting. Though it isnt a job in the design industry, I am still very happy where I have ended up.

Ive been keeping myself busy with a few little design projects and I will slowly load some of them up here to show all. One of them though is carrying on with the rebrand I did for Rah, where I have taken a few pics of the documents I have produced for the campaign and maybe load up to Behance one day. It was fun however to set up a little photo shoot and playing around making a gif to go with it.

We're in Melbourne baby!

Finally have some time to update this old blog thingy!

Well we made it to Melbourne safe and sound and have been flat tack looking for work and flats and discovering this incredible city! First couple of weeks both Rah and I went hardout throwing our resume's at anything that slightly resembled in us getting some work. Rah did well and landed a cool photo retouching job which in the future has the opportunity of learning portrait photography and taking on her own clients. She is loving it already and it suits her well. I haven't been as quick to find work yet, but things are picking up with an interview next week for a print store, and hopefully another interview with a sportswear bussiness who are looking for a fabric cutter...also should hear back from another job that I had an interview for last wenesday as a service coordinator for a print supplier. In between these interviews I'm going to go visiting some of the local print stores and drop my C.V. off with them. Every week I say that I will have a job by the end of the week...but this time its for real!!

Finding a flat seemed relativly easy in comparrison. We went out veiwing flats one weekend, applied to the one that we really liked out of four that we viewed, and were moved into it by the next weekend. Which was a huge relief because the amount of people that were at the viewings made me think we were in for a nightmare of a time. We were also lucky to stay with the best host's to Melbourne ever! Ev and Vic were amazing looking after us when we first got here, it made things 100 times easier I'm sure.

We have already done so much since we've been here, I will post a bunch of photos soon. But we both can't wait for me to get a job, which will allow us to a whole lot more that we are dying to do...Top of the list is just to go shopping. Even though its annoying not having the cash at the moment its kinda cool, it makes you look for cheaper options of doing things which isnt all a bad thing. Such as instead of buying a tv we signed up to Video Ezy and have started making our way through the top 100 movies of all time listed on IMDb  http://www.imdb.com/chart/top  and just watch them our laptops. Hopefully by not having a tv it will push us to do photography and meto do more self intiated design work to bump up my portfolio.

Last week I was at a printery getting some more C.Vs printed and I asked the guy how the job market was for printery jobs, he said there is plenty there but it does take great perserverence he also asked if he could look over my portfolio. It was daunting to have having the first person in "the industry" looking over my work but he had nothing but good things to say about it and said I shouldn't have too much of a problem if I get a chance to show my portfolio to an employer. He also gave me some handy tips for my portfolio and things a that I should expect in an interview. This has really boosted my confidence cause I was at the stage of hating all my work and thinking that I wasnt good enough for a proper design job!

So I think this will catch me up in the blog world some what...hope to get some photos of what we have been up to posted real soon. And hopefully I will have some good news...I mean I will have some good news by the end of this week...NO EXCEPTIONS!

Hoorah for now.
